Accessibility statement
CharityCompare is committed to making its UK charity directory and ratings usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. We are working towards WCAG 2.2 level AA.
Conformance status
This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA: most of the site meets the standard, but some content does not yet fully conform (see “Known issues” below). We review accessibility as part of each design change and are actively closing the remaining gaps.
What we have built in
- A “Skip to content” link and semantic landmarks (
header, nav, main, footer). - A 16 px base font with a fluid, responsive type scale and resizable text.
- Visible keyboard focus styles and full keyboard navigation of menus, search, filters and the compare tool.
- Text alternatives and ARIA labelling on the score rings, star ratings and charts.
- Respect for the “reduce motion” operating-system setting.
- Data tables with proper headers, and form fields with programmatic labels.
Our colour palette
The interface uses a warm cream background with a high-contrast orange accent and a near-black footer. We use a darkened orange for body links, scores and small text so they meet the 4.5:1 contrast minimum, and reserve the brighter orange for large headings and decorative fills.
Known issues we are fixing
- A small number of legacy components and decorative star tints are being re-checked against the 4.5:1 / 3:1 contrast thresholds.
- We are improving focus management and keyboard handling on overlay dialogs.
- Some dynamically updated result counts are being given screen-reader announcements.
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers and with screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA and TalkBack. It does not require JavaScript to read a charity profile.
Feedback and contact
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or need information in a different format, email [email protected] and describe the page and the problem. We aim to respond within five working days.
